Unisana Hospital in Almada receives a €40M investment and is set to expand its premises

Almada Hospital, part of the Unisana Hospitais group, is set to receive an investment of 40 million euros to expand its capacity and strengthen the provision of healthcare services in the South Bank and Greater Lisbon areas.

The project involves the construction of a new hospital building, alongside the refurbishment of the existing facility, to form an integrated hospital complex. With the expansion, the hospital is set to triple its current size, bringing its total floor area to around 15,000 square metres.

The planned new facilities include three operating theatres, around 50 beds, a Medically Assisted Reproduction clinic, a Nuclear Medicine Unit with PET scanning, an Out-of-Hours Service and a Palliative Care Unit. There are also plans to enhance imaging capacity and modernise the facilities.

Eduardo Moniz, CEO of Unisana Hospitais, said: “To meet this growing demand and offer even better conditions whilst maintaining the same level of care and proximity as always, we are set to begin construction on the expansion of Unisana Hospital de Almada, which is due to be completed by the end of 2029”.

The investment will be made as part of the partnership between Unisana Hospitais and Lifento, and the work will be carried out in two phases, with overall completion scheduled for the end of 2029.
