Barcelona continues to consolidate as an alternative to investing in Madrid, and it was the principal destination (considering single cities) for real estate investment, attracting 34% of the total amount traded in the first eight months of 2021, equivalent to almost 2.2 billion euros, also leading the number of operations (37).
The Catalonian city has grown its share of investment in the country, and the total volume of investment increased by more than 20% when compared to the same period of the previous year (Barcelona attracted around 1.75 billion euros in the first nine months of 2020).
Madrid follows in second place, attracting approximately 960 million euros during the period analysed, 16% of the total, with 29 registered operations. The city presents a loss of its share to the benefit of Barcelona, but also to the rest of the country.
The volume of investment in the Spanish capital decreased by more than 60% compared to the same period of the previous year, and the number of concluded operations decreased as well.
The remaining 50%, or 3.2 billion euros, channeled to real estate investment in Spain until the end of August of 2021, was distributed across the rest of the country. This value represents a growth of 10% and an additional 340 million euros, compared with 2.86 billion euros invested in the same period the previous year.
