It seems strange to show optimism with the triple crisis that plagues us. First it was the health crisis, then the economic crisis and, in the end, the social crisis; aggravated by the growing international instability when we had not yet recovered from the pandemic. However, and in the midst of adversity, Madrid once againflourishes as the most prosperous bastion of Spain, as the economic locomotive of southern Europe and as one of the most dynamic and attractive international capitals for investment. We grow, we gain population, we attract talent, we create jobs, and more and more companies choose us as their headquarters.
This is no coincidence. In Madrid, over the last 3 years, we have been guaranteeing legal safety, betting on public-private collaboration and lowering taxes. We, from the Urban Development Government Sector, have been frantically trans- forming the city for 3 years. Right now, just to give two examples, the largest urban operation in Europe has been approved, Madrid Nuevo Norte -which will represent an investment of more than € 6.000 M-, and more than 100.000 new homes are being built in the new urban developments within the city’s southeast, representing more than 30 billion euro in private investment. We were clear from the beginning: urbanism is one of the main levers that a city has to activate the economy, generate employment, attract investment and guarantee the prosperity of citizens. Therefore, our decisions have resulted in more than 22 billion euro raised to invest in Madrid’s urbanism.
Times are uncertain, but they are less so in Madrid. Investing in our city is investing in a safe value, because there is a public administration behind it that, for the first time in a long time, will provide ways instead of obstacles, follow up instead of banning and which will do everything in its power to continue building together the dream of a city that never gives up and that always moves ahead increasingly stronger.
