Thor Equities has signed a lease for number 30 Gran Vía, in Madrid, to open a new 1,200 square metre flagship store for the fashion and sports equipment firm Nike.
The company will move into a historic building that was built between 1919 and 1924 by order of Marqués de Cubas and which housed the Fontalba Theatre for decades. Between 2005 and 2019 it was occupied by Sfera and for a year Décimas set up a temporary shop here. Since 2018, the property has been in the hands of the real estate group Thor Equities Group, which has developed a luxury residential project with 28 flats on the upper floors.
Until now, Nike had another shop in Gran Vía, of smaller dimensions, located at number 38, where Victoria's Secret will take over. Percassi is the master franchisee for both brands in southern Europe.
The American group thus replicates in Madrid the same move it made at the end of 2021 in Barcelona when, after signing the agreement with Percassi, it moved its shop in Paseo de Gracia and opened a macroflagship with a new concept. Since then, the firm has relocated several shops, replacing those managed by its previous franchisee in Spain, Grup Galcerán.
