After many years of complaints and requests from local residents, the remodelling of Barcelona's La Rambla has finally got underway again. This milestone, together with the economic recovery after the pandemic and the resilience of the real estate sector, is allowing the recovery of one of the main commercial axes of Barcelona.
In this context, the real estate consultancy firm Laborde Marcet has advised on three new real estate operations for restoration in this area. Two of them are located at La Rambla number 40 and one at La Rambla number 96, just in front of the Boqueria Market.
Premises at La Rambla, 40
These are two independent premises, both with smoke vent and a Bar-Restaurant licence. The larger one, 252 sqm in total, will be a restaurant specialising in Turkish food, and the smaller one, with a surface area of 100 sqm, will be used as a café-cafeteria.
Premises on Rambla 96
The third of the real estate operations has been carried out by Restaurante Boka with its commitment to renting new premises for catering. The premises have a total surface area of 250 sqm distributed over two floors of 125 sqm each.
Recovery of the Rambla as a commercial axis
The main objective of Barcelona City Council with these works is to reactivate commercial activity and promote the commercial diversification of La Rambla. For this reason, it will allocate 44.65 million euros to its renovation, which will be divided into five phases. The first of these has already begun with work in the area between Madrona and Colón, where trees will be planted and the lighting will be renewed to reduce road traffic.
Ángela Sánchez, Retail Director of Laborde Marcet, assures that "this renovation will cause an upward revaluation of the area", and adds "by increasing pedestrianisation, it will increase the turnover of shops, as making the streets more attractive to pedestrians encourages consumption in the shops located at street level".
