Xior Student Housing will develop and operate a student residence in the center of Zaragoza for a total of 26 million euros, as announced by the Belgian company on Monday.
Specifically, Xior has won a tender process, launched by Zaragoza Vivienda, a company of the Zaragoza City Council, to develop and operate a student residence for 75 years in the Pignatelli area of the Aragonese capital. The residence, which will have 388 beds, is expected to be ready for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The project consists of two plots of land, with a total buildable area of more than 13,500 sqm, with standing buildings of former military use, which require rehabilitation.
The first building, a barracks that will undergo a complete remodeling and will be expanded with an annex, is located at number 4, Madre Rafols street. The land has a buildable area of 6,066 sqm.
The second, a residence that will undergo a comprehensive reform and will be expanded at both ends with two annexes, is located at numbers 8, 10 and 12 on the same street. The land has an area of 7,448 sqm.
The new student residence, located 10 minutes' walk from the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar and 15 minutes from the main campus of the University of Zaragoza, will have single, double and triple rooms, as well as apartments. It will also have numerous common areas, such as a gym, several study rooms, a dining room or a cafeteria, among others.
Bastiaan Grijpink, Country Manager Iberia at Xior, said that "we are very proud to have the opportunity to develop a student residence in Zaragoza". "We are sure that it will become an essential part of what Zaragoza has to offer to the national and international student community," he pointed out.
