The Provincial Council of Toledo has acquired the former School of Nursing in the Palomarejos district for €2.05 million, with plans to convert the vacant building into a university residence.
The property was purchased from the Treasury General of the Social Security (Tesorería General de la Seguridad Social), with the transaction formally completed before a notary by Toledo Provincial Council president Concepción Cedillo and the institution’s provincial secretary, Enrique Molina Prados.
The building has a total constructed area of 4,832 sqm, spread across a semi-basement, ground floor and three upper floors, as well as a 779 sqm landscaped area. It is located between Calle Lisboa, Calle Alicante and Calle Cáceres.
The acquisition will allow the provincial authority to bring the currently unused property back into public use and increase the supply of publicly supported student accommodation in Toledo.
The Provincial Council currently operates the 92-room Santa María de la Cabeza University Residence. Demand for the facility has significantly exceeded available capacity, with almost 300 applications submitted for the last academic year. More than 90% of its residents come from municipalities in Toledo province, while over 70% are from Talavera de la Reina and its surrounding area.
The new residence is intended primarily to support students from municipalities across the province who need to relocate to Toledo for university studies.
The acquisition was financed through a €2.05 million long-term loan from Banco Santander, awarded by the provincial authority in July. The council paid a €102,420 deposit in March, with the remaining €1.95 million paid upon completion of the purchase.
The acquisition marks the start of the next phase of the project, focused on adapting the building and developing the university residence.
