Spain2Stay, Holland2Stay's subsidiary for Spain, has held a groundbreaking ceremony in Armilla (Granada) to mark the start of the construction of a student residence in which it will invest 25 million euros in its entry into the Spanish market.
The event was attended by the Mayoress of Granada, Marifrán Carazo Villalonga, and the Mayoress of Armilla, Loli Cañavate Jiménez, who accompanied Zjef Bogers, founding partner of Holland2Stay, and Enrique Molina Campos, local partner in Spain.
The project involves the construction of a student residence with 357 beds in single rooms, with its own bathroom and kitchen, common areas, rooftop swimming pool, leisure and study areas, and with a high commitment to energy and social sustainability. "It is an asset designed ad-hoc for the accommodation of students and/or young professionals, with functional spaces, and with a high standard in accommodation and sustainability. It has been designed to obtain the BREEAM Very Good environmental quality seal and, in addition to this type of international approval, we are taking steps to ensure that it also dialogues with the natural heritage of Granada," said Enrique Molina Campos.
Spain2Stay's first residence in Spain will create a hundred direct jobs during construction and will have around 10 employees when it comes into operation in September 2025.
In addition to the 357 individual room-apartments, the complex has a rooftop swimming pool, communal study and leisure areas, landscaped courtyards, urban gardens, a fitness room, car and electric mobility chargers, electric bike sharing and, above all, an unbeatable location in relation to the city.
In addition, Holland2Stay (Spain2Stay) fosters an inclusive culture for its tenant base, with welcome days and various activities in favour of the community, with the intention of creating a suitable environment and not just accommodation, as Enrique Molina Campos explains.
"This type of project means that the accommodation is not just accommodation, but a complete, welcoming environment, in every sense of the word, which validates extended stays for practically the whole of a student's life, especially in such complex and crucial careers for society as healthcare and new technologies", added the Spain2Stay manager.
Holland2Stay intends to promote five to seven similar projects in the coming years in Spain, and is already looking for new locations in Madrid and Valencia, as its founder Zjef Bogers announced during the event.
The choice of Granada for this first residence has to do with the demand of one of the main university cities in the country, says Enrique Molina Campos, who was born in Granada and studied in this city.
