The Madrid City Council has transferred 53 plots to the Municipal Housing and Land Company of Madrid (EMVS Madrid) in Los Ahijones and Berrocales, areas belonging to the district of Vicálvaro, with the aim of building more than 3,300 homes for affordable rental.
Madrid's deputy mayor and acting mayor, Inma Sanz, has announced that EMVS has been instructed to start the tender for the works as soon as possible, in order to offer housing solutions to new families and young people who wish to emancipate themselves.
During the presentation of a report by the delegate of Housing Policies, Álvaro González, in the Governing Board, Sanz has highlighted the commitment of the City Council to increase the supply of affordable housing in the capital. To date, a total of 403 homes in five developments have been completed, awarded and incorporated into the assets of the EMVS.
The EMVS, which currently manages more than 8,200 rental homes, is approaching the limit of its operational construction capacity, with 28 developments totaling nearly 2,400 homes in different stages of construction. These homes are distributed in nine districts of Madrid, including Vicálvaro, Puente de Vallecas and Villaverde, among others. The majority of these developments are expected to be completed between 2024 and 2025, with some extending to 2027.
In addition, EMVS Madrid plans the direct construction of 2,100 additional homes in the coming years, distributed in eight developments in different districts such as Tetúan and Moncloa-Aravaca. Simultaneously, it is anticipated that the public-private partnership will allow the construction of 14 developments with more than 1,600 affordable homes to begin in the coming months, and more than 600 additional homes on municipal land by 2025.
This development strategy will allow EMVS Madrid to add more than 6,700 new homes to the capital's public housing stock, making a significant contribution to the supply of affordable housing aimed primarily at young people and families with minor children.
