The project will represent a 19 million euro investment and will add 12.000 sqm more to the distribution company’s national headquarters, practically doubling its current area (from 15.000 sqm to 27.000 sqm), once the works are concluded by next year’s Summer.
Following the expansion, Lidl calculates the new work centre will be able to host more than 1.000 employees from its workforce.
Imanol Zabala, Lidl’s general manager for expansion and real estate in Spain, stated that «as a company, we are showing with deeds our firm and decided bet on the Spanish market, with the deployment of our ambitious expansion plan being an example of that».
Since its arrival to Montcada i Reixac 18 years ago, Lidl has invested around 150 million euro in the construction of central offices, one warehouse and a store and also in urbanising its surroundings.
1.5 billion euro to invest until 2024
Lidl currently has more than 630 outlets and 11 logistic platforms in Spain.
The company predicts it will invest a total 1.5 billion euro for the period 2021-2024, so as to support their growth in our country. Lidl will open around 120 stores and four warehouses within the next few years.
This year, the supermarket chain expects to open around 40 new points of sale, as well as a new logistic platform in Nancleares de la Oca (Alava).
