The Barcelona City Council has bought the old headquarters of Editorial Gustavo Gili, located in the L’Eixample district, to create the new Center for Culture and Education in Barcelona, as reported by the council.
Specifically, the acquisition of the property has cost 9.5 million euros and has been financed with the 30 million fund for the purchase or rehabilitation of unique buildings in operations of interest to the city of Barcelona, as explained by the city council.
The offices of the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) and the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Education (IMEB) will be located in this building, in order to unite in a single space "technical, cultural and educational services, and to be able to design and implement projects and programs jointly ”.
In addition, a cultural and educational program will be offered to turn the institution into a space for stimulation and reflection on the culture-education binomial and all the areas related to it.
The transfer of the ICUB offices, in the Virreina Palace, and the IMEB, in Plaça d'Espanya, to the former headquarters of Editorial Gustavo Gili will allow the two buildings where they are currently located to be freed and new facilities located or expanded existing ones.
