Sanitas and the European University are to develop a university campus in Valdebebas specialising in health sciences, covering more than 3,500 sqm, which is scheduled to open in the 2028/2029 academic year.
Construction will begin in 2027 and the building will be situated some 400 metres from the Blua Sanitas Valdebebas Hospital; through this proximity, both organisations aim to integrate teaching, clinical practice and clinical research within a single environment.
The future building will house nine classrooms equipped with advanced technology, a Centre for Advanced Medical Education, simulation facilities, laboratories and digital training tools. It will also incorporate areas dedicated to research, a library, study areas, relaxation spaces, an auditorium and a multifunctional terrace for meetings and collaborative work.
The campus will bring together a large part of the academic programmes that Sanitas and the European University are developing jointly, which currently comprise undergraduate degrees in Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Occupational Therapy, as well as two postgraduate master’s degrees. From September, the undergraduate degree in Psychology and the Master’s in Continuing Professional Development in Clinical Genomics, Precision Medicine and Genetic Counselling will be added.
Carlos Jaureguizar, CEO of Sanitas and Bupa Europe & Latin America, explained that the project aims to bring together education, healthcare and research within a single ecosystem. Elena Gazapo, Vice-Chancellor of the European University of Madrid, emphasised that the campus’s proximity to the hospital will strengthen the practical component of the programmes and enable them to adapt to the increasing digitalisation of the healthcare sector.
The initiative complements Sanitas Campus FP, launched in 2023 in Madrid and Barcelona to deliver intermediate and advanced vocational training courses linked to the healthcare sector.
