The Port Authority of Bilbao has awarded a joint venture headed by 'Sacyr Ingeniería e Infraestructuras' the construction of the second phase of the Central Breakwater of the Port of Bilbao. This project has a budget of 55.2 million euros and an expected completion period of 26 months.
The project involves the construction of the eastern part of the Central Breakwater of the Port of Bilbao, which includes a vertical caisson quay, generating a new port area of 31.2 hectares and 1,011 linear metres of new berthing quays, divided into 664 metres in the new Quay A3 and 347 metres in the extension of Quay A4.
This phase represents the closure of the expansion of the Port in the Outer Abra, begun in the 1990s. The caissons will be manufactured in the port using the Sacyr Uno floating dock.
The work is fundamental for the Port of Bilbao, allowing it to meet the growing demand for port surface area necessary to accommodate new projects and consolidate its position as a port of reference in the Cantabrian Sea.
The main actions of the project include the manufacture of concrete caissons and their filling with sand from maritime dredging, the construction of the quayside and backside of the quay with the land contribution of gravel, the execution of the superstructure on both the maritime and land sides, the extension of the storm drainage network and the installation of new port equipment.
Sacyr, with experience in port works, has carried out significant projects such as the extension of the Punta Sollana dock-dock in Bilbao, the pontoon in the Port of Langosteira in A Coruña, and the northern expansion of the Port of Valencia, among other national and international projects.
