The Editory Collection Hotels Group has acquired the Sapientia Boutique Hotel – Books & Wine, in Coimbra. The acquisition will take place gradually until the end of this year, extending the group’s operations to a UNESCO-listed area.
The hotel is situated at 4 Rua José Falcão, housed in three interconnected historic buildings that have been restored to preserve their distinctive architectural features, transformed into a bespoke hotel project linked to the city’s university heritage.
It has 22 rooms, each with its own identity based on figures from Portuguese literature linked to Coimbra or paying homage to the city’s historic academic gatherings. The accommodation comprises five distinct categories: Double Room, Loft, Junior Suite, One-Bedroom Apartment and Superior Apartment.
The hotel also features Tasca das Tias Camellas, a restaurant inspired by a historic 19th-century tavern frequented by figures linked to the university and the city’s bohemian life. It also boasts an outdoor courtyard, which serves as a space for dining and leisure, and a rooftop terrace, offering a 360° view of Coimbra. It also offers meeting and event spaces for the corporate sector.
The hotel’s current owners will actively oversee the integration process into the network, working in close collaboration with The Editory Collection Hotels Group, according to a press release.
The integration of the Sapientia Boutique Hotel into The Editory Collection Hotels ensures the continuity of operations and the retention of the 27 staff members currently employed.
