Minor Hotels is set to expand its Portuguese portfolio with two new hotels, one in the North and another in the Centre of the country, according to Público. The projects will involve the conversion of existing buildings that have not previously operated as hotels, with openings expected in around two years.
One of the properties will operate under the Anantara brand, marking the luxury brand’s return to Portugal. The second hotel will be a four-star property, while the Anantara hotel will have a five-star rating. Further details, including the locations and project names, have not yet been disclosed.
The expansion comes alongside the long-planned Anantara Royal Vila Viçosa in the Alentejo. Announced in 2022, the project will transform a 16th-century former convent into a hotel with 76 rooms, suites and residences. No opening date has yet been confirmed.
Anantara previously operated in Portugal through Anantara Vilamoura, but management of the property has since moved to Accor and the hotel is now operated as Victoria Golf Resort & Spa.
Minor Hotels currently operates 17 hotels in Portugal across Lisbon, the Algarve, Porto, Coimbra and Sintra. Its local portfolio includes the Tivoli, NH Collection, NH and Avani brands. The group’s latest Portuguese openings were Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia and Tivoli Estela Golf & Lodges, both launched in 2025.
