The easyHotel hotel chain has acquired its first space in Valencia, in Plaza Rojas Clemente 7-8. The parcel is licensed for the development of a 95-room hotel in the city center geared towards travelers seeking smart travel options. It will be the first easyHotel location in the region, and their fifth hotel in Spain. The international real estate consultant Savills has advised on the process of selling the asset. The acquisition represents the latest step in easyHotel's strategy to become the European leader in affordable, low-carbon hotels, with a focus on France and Spain.
The new hotel, which is scheduled to open in 2024, will have a breakfast area and parking. It is in a privileged location with excellent transport links, including a metro station just a few minutes' walk away, the AVE train station a 15-minute walk away, and Valencia airport 25 minutes away. It is also very close to some of the most popular attractions in the city, such as the Central Market and the Valencia Cathedral.
easyHotel currently has 43 hotels in 11 countries. It offers brilliantly simple hotel rooms in central city locations to cater to a wide demographic ranging from those seeking affordable stays, to those seeking efficiency with their money to spend more on dining and activities, and those who they are simply looking for a "hassle-free" option.
This move is part of easyHotel's ambitious international expansion strategy, with which the company plans to more than double its assets and reach more than 100 hotels by 2026. This network will include franchised, owned and leased hotels. In the immediate future, easyHotel plans to increase its size to 65 hotels in 15 countries over the next 18 months.
Valencia will be the fourth Spanish city in the easyHotel portfolio. Current locations include Barcelona, Malaga, and Madrid, where easyHotel will open its 230-room hotel later this year. In addition, easyHotel has committed to opening a second owned location in Barcelona in 2024.
Javier Oroz, Director of Hotels at Savills Spain, explained that “Valencia's hotel industry, which has traditionally been dominated by national and domestic players, is increasingly attractive to international market participants. In the coming years, we expect a significant improvement in the hotel offer. This will be driven by the development of new projects, as well as the repositioning of existing ones. easyHotel's expansion in the area is an excellent example of this and as an option to show the city to national and international travellers. The high entry barriers in the Ciutat Vella district -due to the moratorium on hotel licenses- will favor the expansion of the hotel offer in other areas with great potential, such as the Valencia marina.”
Karim Malak, CEO of easyHotel, commented: “We are very excited to expand our network throughout Spain, as part of our ambitious expansion plan to reach 65 locations in the next 18 months and grow the property to over 100 by 2026. Valencia is a city full of art, culture, gastronomy and history to discover, as well as beautiful beaches and activities to enjoy. An affordable easyHotel in the heart of the city center will provide travelers with a great gateway to discovering this beautiful city.”
And he added that "we are working to become the number one sustainable hotel group in Europe and the opening in Valencia will bring an ecological and affordable option to the city center".
