That leaves almost 80% with either 60 to 80 m2 (28.7%) and those of more than 80 m2, which lead with 49.7% of acquisitions. For CCAA, the most popular areas were Castilla-La Mancha, Navarra and Extremadura, where two thirds of homes purchased were larger than 80 m2.
International demand consolidating
The report on registers also shows the consolidating strength of international demand in house purchase, which during the past year has maintained its good performance of recent years, reaching a new historic record of 13.25% in 2016, a result not far from those of recent years (13.2% in 2015 and 13% in 2014). From the record low of 2009 (4.2%), there have been seven consecutive years of growth, tripling the total percentage total.
According to the CCAA, the islands have regained leading position in the results of international house buyers, at more than 30% each. Specifically, the Balearics reached the top result at 32.9%, followed by the Canaries with 30.49%, and the Comunidad Valenciana (26.66%). In contrast, the least international presence in terms of transactions has been in Galicia (0.8%), Extremadura (1.1%) and Asturias (1.9%).
By province, Alicante heads the ranking, with 43% of purchases by people from abroad, followed by Tenerife (40%), Málaga (34%), the Balearics, (32.9%) and Girona (30%). At the opposite end of the scale are Lugo, Cáceres, A Coruña, Orense and Salamanca, where purchases from people from other countries make up only 1% of house purchases.
