US healthcare fund Medical Properties Trust (MPT) will invest 121 million euros in the development of three hospitals, located in Barcelona, Valencia and Alicante.
The fund has signed a lease agreement with the healthcare operator Imed, which will operate and manage the assets. These three centres will be added to the one already owned by MPT in the Valencian town of Burjassot, on Avenida Ilustración, which is also managed by Imed.
MPT is also the landlord of yet another healthcare operator in Spain, HM Hospitales. The healthcare group chaired by Juan Abarca sold two of its centres, HM Sanchinarro University Hospital and HM Torrelodones University Hospital, to MPT for more than 200 million euros to remain as a tenant.
In addition, MPT has recently taken over three clinics of the GenesisCare oncology group in Spain. The facilities are GenesiCare Campo de Gibraltar (Algeciras, Cádiz), GenesisCare Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) and Genesiscare Málaga. These are three facilities specialised in oncological radiotherapy. With this transaction, MPT became the owner of the properties and entered into a sell and leaseback contract with the healthcare company for a medium to long term amount of 27 million euros.
