On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, the Vigo Free Trade Zone Consortium is organising the Vigo Global Summit, which is set to become the economic event of the year in Galicia. More than twenty women and men, representatives from the world of entrepreneurship, the banking sector and leading economists will take part in the event. In addition, they will be joined, for the first time in history, by two Nobel Prize winners in Economics: Paul Krugman and Abhijit Banerjee.
The Vigo Global Summit will be directed by Santiago Lago Peñas, professor at the University of Vigo, and hosted by the journalist from Pontevedra Xabier Fortes, and will revolve around three round tables that will address some of the key issues to better understand what the economy of the future will be like.
The sessions by Krugman and Banerjee, as well as the first two roundtables, will focus mainly on entrepreneurship, business dynamics, digital transformation and new trends in the banking sector in the face of the generalised uncertainty. The third panel discussion, however, will address issues that are of particular interest to this publication and - we hope - to our readers.
The role of cities as an engine of progress and wealth creation will be the central theme of the third panel discussion at the Vigo Global Summit. Cristina García-Peri, senior partner and director of Corporate Development and Strategy of the Azora Group, will be the keynote speaker on this panel, which will analyse how and how much paradigms have changed in the world of urban planning. Andrés Rodríguez-Pose, professor at the London Business School; Pedro Siza Vieira, former Minister of Economy of Portugal, and Elisabet Viladecans, Professor of Economics at the University of Barcelona, will be the professionals who will complete this panel, undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Vigo Global Summit 2023.
