The energy model of Madrid Nuevo Norte has been selected within the financing program for decarbonization of cities Horizon 2020 (H2020) of the European Commission.
The pilot project of the Northern Castellana District (DCN), which will serve to put into practice the vision of the Madrid Nuevo Norte energy model, will have European funding and will be developed in the area of Las Tablas Oeste, the first to be developed within of urban development.
This pilot test will consist of the installation of a hot and cold network that will supply the buildings with the energy necessary to cover their heating, hot water and cooling needs, for which it will connect some buildings with others (whether office or residential) so that these can "lend" heat to each other, according to the needs of each moment, taking advantage of energy that today is discarded and emitted into the atmosphere.
The energy that will feed these district networks will be 100% renewable since they use sustainable energy sources such as geothermal energy and photovoltaics.
On the other hand, the Madrid City Council, through its Government area for the environment and mobility and urban development, will participate as a partner in the project, helping as administration in the administrative viability of the 100% renewable heating and cooling networks. Its main objective is to strengthen public-private collaboration in urban planning towards zero-emission districts, facilitating joint work processes and the generation of new regulations.
