Microsoft has repeated its commitment to Aragon with the purchase of 84.4 hectares in the Centrovía industrial estate in La Muela, to develop its second data centre, according to El Heraldo de Aragón.
The American firm has formalised the acquisition of the 94 plots of land for industrial use that make up the fifth phase of the extension of the industrial estate, whose ownership has been in private hands until early autumn. After this purchase, Microsoft still has to acquire the only publicly owned plot, which belongs to La Muela Town Council and consists of 9.4 hectares.
After the transaction, which is estimated at 14 million euros, Microsoft would have paid almost €15/sqm. The cost that the company will have to assume to develop the land could raise the final cost to between €40/sqm and €45/sqm.
The ownership of the land changed on 2 October, when the technology company registered as the owner in the land registry of La Almunia de Doña Gadina, on which the La Muela industrial estate depends.
Microsoft's first data centre in Spain is located in San Sebastián de los Reyes and has been built by Ferrovial; the asset will be inaugurated in the coming months.
According to Colliers data, data centre projects under development in Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon increased by 15% in the second half of 2022, from 20 to 24 projects.
