Merlin Properties is now part of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, the benchmark index for sustainability and governance worldwide. It is the first Spanish real estate company to make the list.
This index lists the leading companies in sustainability identified by S&P Global, and includes 10% of the companies in each sector with the highest sustainability scores. Only 17 real estate companies worldwide are on this list, and only 5 are European.
Merlin Properties scored 69 points in the S&P evaluation in this regard, and is in the 97th percentile in its sector, real estate. It has distinguished itself through transparency and reporting, ethics in business, decarbonization, social integration and commitment to stakeholders.
For the company, its inclusion in the index is proof of its determined commitment to implementing measures to reduce the carbon footprint of its assets, cites EuropaPress, a plan that envisages the reduction of the carbon footprint of its assets; an 85% reduction in the operational carbon footprint, a reduction in the carbon embodied in the construction and renovation of its buildings and the use of renewable energy. Merlin also wants unavoidable emissions to be offset through its own initiatives. It should be noted that Merlin also has an A rating and a score of 83 in the Carbon Disclosure Project, which specializes in ESG ratings under GRESB.
Merlin is also a member, for the third consecutive year, of the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index, which includes 7 European real estate companies.
