ICG, an alternative global asset manager, together with Teras Capital, an investment platform, has launched Templus, identified as the first sustainable and advanced regional data center platform in Southern Europe. Templus introduces a business model focused on customer proximity, security and high energy efficiency standards. Its goal is to develop a network of more than 20 colocation data centers in Southern Europe.
The platform is led by Nacho Velilla, former global vice president and general manager for Spain at Equinix, and former president and co-founder of Spain DC, the Spanish Data Center Association. Velilla leads a team of professionals with experience in digital infrastructures. Templus starts its activity with five operational data centers in Madrid, Málaga and Seville, with an installed capacity of 15MW. The official launch took place at the DCD>Connect Madrid 2024 event.
Templus stands out for offeringthree key elements: proximity to reduce latency, enhanced security through direct interconnections and sustainability through the use of 100% renewable energy. These features promise to deliver an infrastructure with the highest security standards, promoting the development of both regional and global business ecosystems.
In addition, the company is committed to ESG criteria and the 2030 agenda, standing out for the optimal levels of PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness) in the sector.
According to Nacho Velilla, CEO of Templus: “What we are looking for is to democratize data. The proximity of data facilitates the digitization process. These facilities should not only be available to companies located near large national or European hubs, any company should have the same digital opportunities regardless of where they operate. This is the main objective of Templus, to bring data closer to people and companies and not for them to get closer to the data. Ultimately, if we can keep information closer to the users who need it, we will be more efficient, faster and safer."
