The Greater Porto project, which brings together the municipalities of Porto, Gaia and Matosinhos, has already raised over 100 million euros in projects for Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and Matosinhos.
The amount was advanced by the councillor for Economy, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Ricardo Valente, who, alongside the mayor, Rui Moreira, and the councillor for Urbanism and Housing, Pedro Baganha, is at MIPIM 2023, which is being held in Cannes, France.
It should be recalled that Greater Porto made its debut at Expo Real 2022, and the project has been growing since its presentation at the international fair. The demand for investment "has been higher in the American, Asian, Spanish and northern European markets," reads a statement from Porto City Hall.
Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, is "pleased" with the participation in MIPIM and reinforces the importance of showing potential investors how the Atlantic Front municipalities are assumed as "contiguous territories. For Rui Moreira "it is better to explain what unites us than to explain what separates us, which was what was done for so many years".
Greater Porto "reassures" investors about the Mais Habitação Program
Greater Porto sought to "reassure" investors, who traditionally bet in Portugal, regarding the "fear" about the Mais Habitação Program. In MIPIM, the mayor of Porto, said that "we were trying to reassure them, explain what models interest us, as [housing models for] affordable rent in which we have all the guarantees that will continue," according to a statement.
António Costa, chairman of the board of directors of Gaiurb, emphasised the importance of national companies that "trusted in the audacity" of the three municipalities. Marta Pontes, councillor for Promotion and Support for Activities in the Areas of Economic Development of the Matosinhos City Council, stressed the "positioning" that the presence in events such as MIPIM leverages for the territories.
