The new hospital will be built in partnership with Mundicenter, which manages the Braga Parque shopping centre. With a planned area of 12,000 square metres, the new hotel will have two floors, three operating rooms, 40 inpatient beds, an oncology day unit, an intermediate care unit, permanent care and a wide range of medical-surgical and technical specialities. The aim is to be able to cater for more than 100,000 people a year.
Quoted by the Expresso newspaper, CUF's CEO Rui Diniz emphasises that this new hospital ‘is an important step in our growth and consolidation strategy, extending CUF's presence to the fourth most populous district in the country. This is a fast-growing region with a strong dynamic in the areas of knowledge and new technologies’. He adds that the Minho region is particularly attractive due to its ‘robust business structure and highly prestigious university.
For the Mayor of Braga, Ricardo Rio, the creation of a new hospital will be a "huge asset" for the citizens of the city and the region. ‘There is no logic of preference or exclusivity, all the responses are complementary and welcome, because they make it possible to reinforce the existing offer,’ he said in statements to Jornal de Notícias.
