Barcelona City Council's Governing Committee has approved setting aside a budget of 8 million euros to buy the former Clínica Barceloneta building and the three adjacent buildings to convert them into the new Barceloneta primary care centre (CAP). This group of buildings is located at Carrer Pescadors 82-94 and has 3,000 square metres distributed over seven floors.
The new CAP will house more services, as a result of the development of specialised care and the expansion of professional services from primary care. Currently, the services of the CAP Barceloneta are offered in a more limited way from a smaller space included in the Hospital del Mar.
In this regard, the deputy mayor and councillor for the Ciutat Vella district, Albert Batlle, pointed out that with this facility, the Barceloneta neighbourhood will have first-rate health care. He added that this "will have to be complemented in the future with other issues that have long been demanded by the neighbourhood", such as sheltered housing and a care service for the elderly, among others.
