Old Shipyard, La Naval
VGP, a European provider of industrial and logistics real estate, has received confirmation of having submitted the highest offer for the lot that integrates the floors of the old La Naval shipyard on the Bilbao estuary.
VGP is in the process of acquiring the plot in the municipality of Sestao, located directly on the Bilbao estuary, within the framework of the asset liquidation plan of Construcciones Navales del Norte, SL, which began on December 18, 2020. The purchase it is subject to judicial approval.
The company's future plans for a new park, with a primary focus on industrial activities, will incorporate existing elements to preserve some of the iconic features of the old shipyard.
«The Greater Bilbao metropolitan area, with one million inhabitants, is positioned among the most competitive, innovative and productive European regions. Therefore, we are very proud that, with our new park in Sestao, we are contributing to the progress of the manufacturing industry in this region and its technological and digital transformation», said Jan Van Geet, CEO of VGP.
«VGP takes sustainability seriously. We will base the development of the park on the requirements of sustainable and energy efficient construction and our goal is to obtain at least the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification for the park. In fact, the roofs of the pavilions to be developed will be equipped with photovoltaic systems», explained Joan Lacosta, the group's country manager for Spain.
VGP started its journey in the country in June 2015. Since then, it has closed the acquisition of more than one million net square meters of industrial land in Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Valencia, Seville and now possibly in Sestao.
