Foreign tourists visiting Spain spent 77,000 million euros, in our country, a rise of 8.3%, according to close of year estimates prepared with information from Turespaña and statistics from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Average spending per tourist was 1,023 euros (+3.75%) with an average daily spending 138 euros, a rise of 6.5%.
During 2016, the main countries that the tourists came to Spain from were the United Kingdom, France and Germany. The Minister stated that reservations for airport ‘slots’ predict that the year 2017 will also be a good year for tourism from Britain
The United Kingdom, with 16.9 million tourists, up 12.3%, maintained its position as the source of the greatest number of tourists, "without any noticeable 'Brexit' effect", the Minister pointed out. France follows, with 10.7 million visitors (+7.1%) and Germany with 10.7 million visitors (+6.1%) in respect of the same months of 2015.
Cataluña was the main destination during 2016 with 17 million visitors, 3.8% more than January to November 2016. Following behind are the Balearics with12.9 million tourists t(+12%) and the Canaries with12 million visitors (+12,7%).
