The leaders of this group were Carlos Tejera, founder of Gala Capital and lawyer Miguel Riaño. The former vice-president of bank Santander Alfredo Sáenz also participated in this purchase, albeit with a smaller share, revealed El Confidencial.
The Madrid campus is located at number 20 Calle Serrano. Schiller International University also has campuses in Paris, France, Heidelberg, Germany and in Tampa, Florida in the United States. This private university receives more than 20.000 students from all over the world, gathering more than 50 nationalities every year.
The new investors already have plans for the future of Schiller International University, committing to increase its educational offer. Their goal is to make this university a reference for international students, reports the same newspaper.
On this subject, Schiller International University’s current president, Manuel Alonso-Puig, commented that «there is a strong bet from the whole team to convert this university into the best alternative for international students who want to study in our European campuses or European students who want to study in the United States».
Private universities: a new attraction for investors
This transaction confirms that private universities are a new bet for international investors.
At the end of 2018, El Confidencial noted that private equity Permira had acquired the Universidad Europea de Madrid (Madrid’s European University) for 770 million euro. The latest operation of this type, besides the one mentioned above, concerns the Universidade Alfonso X el Sabio which took place in 2019 and was carried out by venture capital fund CVC, for 1.100 million euro.
