With a gross lettable area (GLA) of 43,500 square metres it is the largest outlet centre in Spain and the first European project of the Venezuelan group Sambil.
According to information from the developers, total investment in the shopping centre came to 59 million euros and at the time of opening its GLA was 85% occupied. There are 130 shops and 2,400 parking spaces and another aim is to install charging points for electric vehicles. Sambil Outlet Madrid will create about 2,000 jobs directly and indirectly.
At the inauguration were Ricardo y Alfredo Cohen, directors of the Grupo Sambil, who affirmed that “our aim for this market is investment, and soon we will be exploring new possibilities for investment in this”.
Also at the inauguration of the new centre was Javier Ruiz Santiago, vice manager of Economy and Innovation, María José Pérez-Cejuela, general director of Comercio and Consumo, both in the Madrid Community government, Santiago Llorente, warden of Leganés and a large number of councillors form the municipal corporation. Also present was Ricardo Fontana, Minister at the Venezuelan Embassy and representatives from the main commercial operators in the country.
The area of fashion, taking up 51% of the total area, has labels including outlets for El Corte Inglés, For & From (Grupo Inditex), Fifty Factory (Grupo Cortefiel) and Outlet Sport (Grupo Intersport), among others.
In the food area will be the Hipermercado Simply, biggest in the Madrid community. For entertainment there are 12 cinemas belonging to the Multicines Odeón and the biggest wind tunnel in Europe, Área 270 The Hurricane Factory, which will open in a few weeks’ time. In the food area there will be Burger King, Foster’s Hollywood and Grupo Vips among others. There will also be an area dedicated to services.
