The words are from Pedro Siza Vieira, Deputy Minister for the Economy, who was talking this Wednesday at a real estate agents’ table during a session of «Talks», a series of talks organized by Worx together with APFIPP (Portuguese Association of Investment Funds Pensions and Assets), in Lisbon.
At this round table, Pedro Siza Vieira said he is certain that «we have to increase the real estate assets’ offer on the market, bringing more professionalism to real estate management and providing more depth to the rental market», as well as «taking advantage of the instruments available so as to be less dependent on bank financing».
Logístics or office may be the main bets
This new mechanism is «agnostic from the point of view of where it can be applied», explains Siza Vieira, since it can be applied on both commercial or housing assets. Even recognizing the great difficulties in getting access to housing, he believes that «we really need to bring investment for rental and other sectors» other than housing, «such as the logistics or the office sectors. We have many requests from the market, and there are many companies doing it. And we need new forms of investment». He believes it would «be wrong» to confuse the creation of this mechanism with the Government’s housing policy.
