In the last quarter of the year, €470 million were invested in the Catalan real estate sector, below the €672 million invested in the same period of 2016, a figure that includes the assets within the Merlin-Metrovacesa operation.
The office sector was the most prominent in 2017, registering an investment volume of €782 million (37% of the total) and 4% higher than the volume reached in 2016. It is followed by the hotel sector, with €627 million, and the residential and industrial and logistics sectors, which reached €203 and €194 million, respectively.
The retail sector is the one that registered a higher year-on-year decrease, since that with €203 million invested the figure is 79% lower than the previous year. However, it should be noted that in 2016 the number was exceptional due to the sale of the Diagonal Mar shopping center (close to €500 million).
Around 38% of real estate investment made in 2017 in Catalonia has come from abroad, in line with previous years. The main investor countries include France, with 13%, and the United States, with a 12% market share.
