This is one of the conclusions CBRE presented concerning its latest report “Barcelona desde el cielo” (Barcelona from the sky). 226.000 sqm are currently under construction or rehabilitation, 75% more than in 2018. Out of the total area under development, 27% is already reserved.
As explained by director of Research at CBRE España, Lola Martínez-Brioso, «the high demand for office spaces and the lack of offer on quality buildings available for rental, has been boosting the construction of new buildings in the last few months».
The Sant Martí district, where distrito 22@ is located, is where there are more projects with a total of 12. The highlight goes to Proyecto Sea de Meridia and Alaba 111 de Llave de Oro.
The retail sector registered four very relevant projects: the Passeig de Gràcia 17, Passeig de Gràcia 109, Diagonal 605 and Diagonal 611 (Pedralbes Centre).
The construction activity in the hotel segment remains the same. In total, there are currently 14 hotels under construction or rehabilitation, the same number as in 2018.
The number of housing projects has dropped 10% yoy. According to the report, this decrease might explain the 4% yoy drop in real estate projects currently under construction in the Catalonian capital.
