The logistic assets – which have a total combined area of 271.000 sqm – should be operational during the first semester of 2021, reports newspaper LaVanguardia.
Among other Cilsa’s projects, are the construction of a warehouse for Agility and of another warehouse which will be occupied by Lidl. In these two developments alone, the company has already spent 31.4 million euro with the corresponding construction bidding licenses (€5.9M on the first project and €25.5M on the second).
With these new acquisitions, the company will have a total 920.000 sqm of logistic areas under its management, of which 740.000 sqm correspond to buildings belonging to the company itself.
Once this logistic area is concluded it will employ 9.000 people and more than 13.500 suppliers and carriers. These numbers reflect this area’s importance when it comes to jobs and economic development within the Catalan capital.
Despite the lack of management within the sector, the company should maintain its bet on it. «The big operators are looking for increasingly larger warehouses, with 100.000 sqm and there is nowhere where to build them in Catalonia. And we compete with Genoa and Marseille to become a logistic hub in Southern Europe», comments Alfonso Martínez, the company’s CEO, to the same newspaper.
The Autoritat Portuària de Barcelona (51,5%) and Merlin Properties (48,5%) are Cilsa’s main shareholders. The company closed last year with a 50.1 million revenue and 9.1 million net.
