Mercadona’s first “Colmena” in Madrid is located in Getafe and it has 15.000 sqm, according to Mercadona in a release issued this Monday.
On this new investment, Mercadona’s e-commerce Project director, Juana Roig explained that «we decided to launch a new online service in Madrid, given the exceptional and delicate situation we are all going through, because now more than ever our clients demand it».
For now, this logistic unit should assure deliveries to the Madrid districts of Salamanca, Retiro and the Méndez Álvaro area, but according to Mercadona the service should be extended to other parts of the city in the coming weeks. Juana Roig assumes that «we will not be able to service the whole of Madrid, but we will try our best to reach the largest number of clients as soon as possible. Our goal is to reach 30.000 homes next month».
For Juana Roig – who also reinforced the distribution chains in Valencia and Barcelona – right now, companies should be «the main engine to reactivate the economy and this is another proof of our commitment to the country».
