This is one of the main conclusions of the most recent Alpha Cities Index, which, every year, lists the most desirable locations worldwide and which is produced by Warburg, Realty and by Barnes International Realty, in association with the consultants Wealth-X. Although now occupying 30th position in the rankings, led by London, it is predicted that Lisbon will experience a strong increase in popularity as a residential investment by the UHNWI throughout this year, after being classified as the “city to watch”.
Among Lisbon’s advantages, the authors of the ranking highlight the attractiveness and the benefits of the fiscal programmes for foreign residents, such as the Golden Visa and the Programa para os Residentes-Não Habituais (Programme for Non-habitual Residents), the latter aimed at European citizens who want to move to Portugal. But the attractions of the Portuguese capital do not end there, with the authors also noting the warm, welcoming atmosphere, an economy geared to technological development, an amenable climate and a vibrant culture.
Cities included in this ranking are analysed by considering a number of factors whether practical aspects (transport links, personal security, eco-friendliness, access to the best universities) and financial considerations (the ease of doing business, fiscal competivity, financial stability and the cost of housing), or aspects such as the diversity and wealth of cultural heritage, the presence of luxury shops and the number UHNW residents.
