“2017 is a promising year. Expectation is that it will be better than 2016 according to hotel trade indicators. We have seen a recovery in tourism in the last few years and this generates investor confidence”, the AHP report states.
Lisbon and Porto will have the greatest number of new hotel installations in the pipeline for 2017. The Lisbon Metropolitan Area represents 45% of the total, and, in the Portuguese capital alone, 15 hotels are opening this year. Of note are the openings of the new Tryp at Lisbon Airport, the reopening of the former Ever Caparica as Meliá, and the Hotel 1908.
Porto and the Northern region will see 27.5% of new openings, and the city of Porto alone will have six new hotels, among which will be the Monumental Palace Hotel, under the Douro Azul, and the Vila Galé Porto Ribeira. Further north the FeelViana, in Cabedelo is to open.
In the Alentejo there should also be a new hotel, with another six planned in the central zone and three in the Algarve.
