A group of investors from Braga are preparing to invest several million euro in the development and operation of a new resort in the Confeiteira area, which will also include an hotel and leisure theme park with the largest waterpark in the Iberian Peninsula.
The new resort will be constructed on the terrain of the so-called Quinta da Torre, with 33 hectares, and it will be developed in three stages. The hotel unit’s configuration is not yet defined. During the Summer, the Aquaparque will function as an outdoor leisure structure and during the rest of the year as an indoor swimming pool.
Braga City Hall is analysing the proposal to limit the scope of its Execution Unit, under the terms of its Plano Director Municipal (Municipal Guiding Plan) – PDM. After the technical analysis, there will be a councilmen meeting. If approved, it will be followed by a 20 day public discussion and then returned to the municipality for final approval. A request for Reconhecimento de Interesse Público Estratégico (Recognition of Strategic Public Interest) was also submitted.
Architect Ricardo Oliveira, from RSO Architecture, informed local newspaper O Minho that this is «a structuring project», which will represent dozens of millions of euro and create more than one thousand jobs. And we start this year». Investment will be 100% private.
