The local mayor, Raquel Sánchez, explained the news concerning the Gavà Ponent project today, it represents one of the most important public-private housing and urban renewal interventions within Barcelona’s metropolitan area.
The project will include the development of the municipality’s natural growth area with the construction of more than 4.800 dwellings, besides equipment, representing an investment of more than one billion euro over the next five years.
The plan also includes the improvement and a greater protection of the 113 hectares which constitute the municipality’s natural spaces, representing 61% of the whole area.
According to the data provided by the Ayuntamiento de Gavà (Gavà’s city council), the project will include four new neighbourhoods in the Ponent area. The housing development will occupy 15% of the whole area, with 14 hectares (representing 7%) reserved for the construction of 20 new educational, sanitary and cultural equipment. Lastly, the plan also includes the development of at least 30.000 sqm of commercial areas.
