Despite the shutdown caused by the pandemic, EasyHotel acquired a plot of land in Barcelona and will invest 11 million euro to build a 75 bedroom hotel, according to Expansión.
The building’s construction works started during the second quarter and the hotel is expected to open its doors by the end of 2022. The company purchased a terrain at calle Bofarull in Barcelona, within barrio de La Sagrera, one of the few pockets of land in the city. The British hotel chain will develop a 3.239 sqm establishment with seven floors and a basement.
The new hotel will take advantage of the passenger traffic generated by the new La Sagrera train station, which is expected to open its doors by the end of the year.
EasyHotel will have four establishments in Spain, spread across Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga
This will be the company’s fourth project in Spain and the second in Barcelona, where it has its Barcelona La Fira. EasyHotel has a franchise in Malaga and another in Madrid, which is expected to open in 2022. The new hotel will be designed by architecture studio IHP.
Currently, the chain managed by Francois Bachetta has 39 hotels and 3.660 bedrooms. 26 of those hotels are franchised, representing 2.233 bedrooms, while thirteen other accommodation units are owned by third parties. The company was founded in 2004 by Stelios Haji-Ioannou.
