The developers claim that the complex will generate around 3.000 jobs during its construction. They predict that the first stage will open its doors in 2023 and expect to receive three million visitors in the leisure area and 1.5 million in casinos and events during the first year..
Project Elysium City was registered in Junta de Extremadura, before being presented in Mérida by Cora Alpha’s CEO, John Cora (ex theme parks’ vice-president for Disney) and its general director for innovation, Sergio Fernández de Córdova, with the presence of the Regional Executive president, Guillermo Fernández Vara.
With an area of 1.200 hectares, the complex will have an adventure water park, several hotels and casinos, a golf course, a sports marina and a 40.000 seat stadium, destined to both sports events and other types of activities like concerts and shows.
There will also be a commercial area, catering facilities, heliport, a residential area with some 2.000 dwellings, and a high speed train station – the complex is located halfway between Madrid and Lisbon,
Cora Alpha’s CEO pointed out that the company made a feasibility study and that it has «finished the master plan», although some engineering projects are still pending. He remarked that the complex’s construction can start within nine months to a year. The second stage should open in 2028.
