Green Logistics by Aquila Capital, a development area dedicated to Aquila Capital's logistics business in Spain and Europe, officially presented yesterday its Illescas Green Logistics Park project at an event that was attended by José Manuel Tofiño, Mayor of Illescas, Sven Schoel, CEO of AQ Acentor, Iván Martín, Director of Logistics and Franchises of DIA Spain and Miguel López, COO of AQ Acentor.
Illescas Green Logistics Park, located in Illescas, Toledo, in a strategic enclave just 36 km from Madrid, and with direct access to the main communication arteries of the peninsular network, is part of the Central Iberum Platform logistics hub, the first eco-park industrial of Spain. Both the urbanization works and the Green Logistics warehouses will have the BREEAM certification, in addition to photovoltaic panels on the roofs and the compensation of CO2 emissions.
As noted during the event by Miguel López, General Director of Operations (COO) of AQ Acentor, promoter of Aquila Capital and responsible for the development of the project, Illescas Green Logistics Park will involve an investment of 200 million euros for the German company. It consists of 340,000 sqm of net buildable land, divided into a total of five plots, one of which already has a tenant: the DIA food distribution chain. The construction works of the 68,000 sqm warehouse, carried out by Grupo Bertolín, began last January and are already at a 40% completion level.
Illescas Green Logistics Park, in addition to being already a reality, is Aquila Capital's first logistics project in Spain in the construction phase. The company currently develops and manages more than 879,000 sqm of leasable area in Europe, spread over four countries. Within the company's expansion strategy in the logistics sector, Spain is a key market where projects are already under development in several cities in Andalusia.
Aquila Capital continues to search for floors in other locations
In the words of Sven Schoel, CEO of AQ Acentor, promoter of Aquila Capital: “We can affirm that we have received interest from first-rate tenants and we are in talks with several potential clients to continue developing quality logistics area. Illescas Green Logistics Park is a very important project for us: it is the largest of the company in Europe and is part of one of the most important logistics hubs in Europe, the Iberum Central Platform in Illescas ”. Schoel has ensured that they continue to search for floors in other locations on the Peninsula to continue providing clients with customized, sustainable and certified construction solutions.
On the other side, the mayor of Illescas, Mr. José Manuel Tofiño Pérez highlighted: “As the City Council we feel very satisfied to be able to participate jointly with Aquila Capital and Green Logistics with the aim of enabling the BREEAM certification for this urban-industrial development , placing it as a pioneer in obtaining this qualification. For this to be the case, it is necessary that both the development agents, such as the companies that develop the Iberum Central Platform and the City Council itself, work in the same direction. For this reason, I appreciate the commitment of those who are part of this development, and it is the line in which we will continue working from the City Council, since it is a very exciting project. From our point of view, this pioneering project will provide us with knowledge and good practices that can be applied in the future with other actions in the municipality. "
Iván Martín, Director of Logistics and Franchises at DIA Spain, shared the first steps in the construction process of what will be DIA's largest logistics platform in Spain. “Illescas Green Logistics Park has offered us all the tools we needed to strengthen our logistics network and fulfill our company purpose, to be closer to our consumers every day. A strategic location such as Illescas, from where to serve more than 500 stores in the Community of Madrid, Castilla La Mancha and Castilla y León efficiently, a surface of significant dimensions and most importantly, partners aligned with our vision of the future , with whom to share a common project at a crucial moment in DIA's transformation, and committed to our Strategic Sustainability Plan.
