The Junta de Andalusia Governing Board approved the purchase of the Palmas Altas Campus, which, up until now, was owned by Abengoa and where Seville’s future City of Justice will be built.
The acquisition was concluded for a little more than 78 million euro. The building was until recently the headquarters of the energy multinational company, which declared itself insolvent last February 22.
With this purchase, the Andalusian Government intends to join under the same building all the different buildings currently hosting the different judicial bodies. The adaption of the building to become the City of Justice is expected to be carried out in different stages during four years.
A 9.900 sqm parcel will be used for parking and another 22.200 sqm parcel will host the judicial and fiscal buildings.
128 million euro invested on construction works
According to the Junta de Andalucía, the first stage, projected for a four-year scenario, would end with the adaptation of the Palmas Altas Campus, which will allow leaving all the buildings it currently rents, such as the rented part of Edificio Viapol, Edificio Noga, Edificio Buhaira, Edificio Menara and the location at calle Almirante Valdés. This will represent savings of more than 5 million euro per year.
Regardless, the conclusion of Seville’s City of Justice, concentrating all Justice Administration’s organs and services, would be carried out in a second stage, with the end of the new buildings’ construction works, which will start at the same time as the Campus adaptation.
The future City of Justice will surpass 215.000 sqm between the space destined for offices and parking both over and underground, once it is fully built. Investment on construction works will reach 128 million euro, including the readaptation of the current Campus and the construction of the new buildings.
The current Palmas Altas Campus is set on a 42.200 sqm enclosed area and it features seven three to five floor buildings, grouped in two areas and assembled around the central plaza with garden areas. It has a 51.466 sqm built area and 982 underground parking spots.
