The e-commerce company will soon occupy a warehouse in Mollet del Vallès (Barcelona), from where it will supply Barcelona’s metropolitan area, according to TV3. Amazon has reached an agreement with British developer Segro to lease a warehouse which had been occupied by Bacardi three years ago. The warehouse will have 12.000 sqm, despite being installed in a 70.000 sqm parcel, which will be used to load and unload cargo. Amazon may employ as many as 300 workers in these facilities at Mollet del Vallès.
This new centre will join the one that is being prepared in Villamalla (Figueres), which will be considerably larger, with 175.000 sqm and which will serve as an entryway from France into the Spanish. The complex has been acquired by Eurofund, which will be in charge of developing, building and delivering it key-in-hand to Amazon.
Amazon’s arrival to Far-Vilamalla will bring a 72 hectares development, of which 49.1 hectares will be private terrains for companies. The adaptation of the site, which currently has around 21 hectares in developed terrains and hosts companies such as GM Food, will be accompanied by the construction of a European gauge railway track to receive trains from France, something that is vital to attract the logistic giants.
During the last few weeks, the company has announced a new automated 160.000 sqm logistic centre located in Murcia, and another in Alicante, with 8.000 sqm.
