The Spanish airline’s announcement comes after it revealed its intention of developing two mega-projects next to the airports of Madrid and Barcelona. In order to carry out these developments, the company is expecting to attract private investment.
According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, these investments are part of the company’s strategic plan until 2021, through which it intends to create new lines of added value investment, in particular in real estate. The possibility of expanding this project to the airports of Malaga, Valencia and Seville is also on the table.
With these projects, Aena’s CEO Maurici Lucena expects to double the air traffic. And, in this way, «AENA will be capable of absorbing a significant part of that air traffic», mentions the company’s CEO, quoted by the same newspaper.
