The communities with the largest number of house mortgages in 2016 were Andalucía (53,733), Comunidad de Madrid (47,801) and Cataluña (45,873). The communities where the most capital for mortgages was lent were the Comunidad de Madrid (7,319.6 million euros), Cataluña (5,773.2 million) and Andalucía (5,086.1 million).
According to Beatriz Toribio, in charge of Estudios de Fotocasa, “the consolidation of mortgage financing has been one of the most important key factors for the present good performance in the sector”, as “during 2016 we have witnessed a ‘mortgage war’ which has placed on the market new forms of financing such as fixed-term mortgages, which were practically non-existent in our country and which today make up almost a third of our agreed loans”.
Toribio considers that the theme of mortgage financing will continue positively in 2017, albeit more moderately.
