And, according to Idealista, it will keep investing on the acquisition of terrains and the construction of commercial and logistic areas, remaining the owner of those areas, namely in Portugal.

Mercadona’s president, Juan Roig, mentioned in a press release that «in 2019, having the ‘Boss’ (client) always as a guiding light, we kept consolidating the tremendous transformation Mercadona is going through, reaching an historic landmark for all who are part of the company, our internationalisation, by expanding into Portugal, last July. All this, as well as the challenges we still have ahead of us, could not have been reached without the true strength of Mercadona’s transformation: the 90.000 people, 900 of them in Portugal, who, with their talent, effort and leadership are building a company which is increasingly more conscious of its role is in terms of contributing to improve the social and economic environment, operating efficiently and responsibly in order to generate shared prosperity», he concluded.

Mercadona currently has 1.638 supermarkets in Portugal and Spain, and 800 already follow the brand’s new Efficient Store model.
