Mercadona buys terrain in Alicante to build online shopping warehouse
29 March 2019 | Vanessa Sousa

Mercadona keeps investing on its online shopping project in Valencia. This week, the company acquired a terrain in the city of Alicante, which belongs to this Spanish province, to build a new logistic warehouse which will support the process.

As of now, there is no information as to what the identity of the assets’ seller is, nor the amount for which it was sold.

The logistic centre should start operating in 2020. Before that, the construction works will begin on an 18.500 sqm GLA terrain with 12.000 sqm buildable area.

This will be Mercadona’s second project of this type in this region. The first opened in 2018, mentions Eje Prime.

This bet on the online shopping market doesn’t end here. In 2020, the company should start constructing a warehouse in Seville with the same purpose, according to a report from last week. And in the coming years Mercadona plans to open new logistic centres in Madrid and Barcelona.
