«Golden visa» investment drops 32% in May

«Golden visa» investment in Portugal dropped 32% in May yoy, for a total of 50 million, 42.5 of which concerned the acquisition of real estate assets.


According to news agency Lusa and based on data from SEF (Portuguese Foreigners and Borders Service), the drop, when compared with the previous month, was 4.2%. In May 82 visas were issued, of which 74 were related to the purchase of real estate and of these, 6 were for urban renewal.

Since the beginning of the year, the aggregated investment reached 299.2 million euro, 30% less than during the same period of 2018. Since 2012 4.549 million euro were invested, 4.116 million euro through the acquisition of real estate, for a total of 12.746 ARI (Residence Permit for Investment Activity) issued mostly to Chinese, Brazilian, Turkish and South-African nationals.
