The Elegant Group is built on 17 years’ experience creating and managing high-quality assets in Portugal. We are the developers, owners and operators of the Martinhal brand of luxury family resorts and real estate.

Roman and Chitra Stern are the entrepreneurs behind the Elegant Group. Together, the international and dynamic couple from Switzerland and Singapore, parents to four children all born here in Portugal, developed award-winning hotel and residential properties with a unique proposition for family holidays. They have worked hard to establish their businesses and reputation in Portugal and they have been recognized with various awards as successful entrepreneurs.

In 2015, they opened the Martinhal branded 180 villa resort in Quinta do Lago. In 2016 they opened the first city-centre luxury family hotel in Lisbon’s cultural quarter, Chiado, and a newly refurbished hotel in Lisbon’s coastal village of Cascais.

All four Martinhal hotels & resorts are based on private investors acquiring villas and apartments with the option to enter their property into the letting pool of the operator.

Since operation began in 2010, Martinhal has paid each and every owner their rent on time.

Their development in Martinhal Sagres established a reputation as a leading developer in Portugal. The 5-star resort on a 220.000sqm plot on an unspoiled location on the Algarve coast includes 37 hotel rooms, 132 village houses, 50 townhouses and villas with unique designs and a range of high quality leisure, sports, food and beverage facilities.

The couple have become known for creating destinations that have global appeal. To date they have achieved 239 sales of apartments and houses to individual expatriate buyers alone.
